Welcome to The Bickerstaff's Virtual Toy Drive
Our son, Neill was born on December 26th, 2000 with a genetic disorder called 22q11 Deletion Syndrome. During the course of his almost 17 years, he has endured multiple therapies, doctor's appointments, surgeries and hospital stays. During his lengthy hospital stays at the Children's Hospital, we were so grateful for the Child Life Specialists and play rooms made available to Neill to make each day a little bit brighter. He loved going to the DVD library to make his movie selection each day. We were amazed by the entire staff that worked so hard to make Neill feel better and lessen the worries Lindsay and I were experiencing. Neill is still seen by multiple doctors today at The Children's Hospital. He is doing well, staying healthy and keeping us on our toes!
Currently, Children's Hospital has three facility dogs in their Canine F.E.T.C.H. Unit with one coming on board in 2018. We did not have have therapy dogs at Children's when Neill was in the hospital for multiple visits for extended periods of time. How awesome would that have been?! To this day, Neill seeks great comfort from our two dogs, Millie and Maybelle. Whenever he is sad, stressed, anxious, spending time with them helps turn his day around. The facility dogs do the same for the kids at Children's Hospital.
