Supporting the Babies of Bryan NICU and Child Life
Thank you for supporting the GHS Virtual Toy Drive. Meet the Hendricks children. These beautiful "babies" have seen their fair share of a hospital room.
Allie and Sam were born at 36 weeks gestation on November 17, 2006. Sam remained as a boarder baby in the GHS nursery for 10 days due to temperature regulation problems. 24 hours after Allie was born, she was placed in the Bryan NICU and remained there for a month. She struggled with hypoglycemia, jaundice, and lack of a suck-swallow reflex. When Sam came home and we were unable to stay at the hospital all day, the NICU nurses and doctors took extra special care of her and were wonderful about calling to update and ease our minds.
After coming home, Allie continued to struggle with eating, reflux, and weight gain. She returned to GHS Children's Hospital for 2 more surgeries. Dr. Chandler's team and the doctors and nurses at GHS Children's Hospital took great care of her and helped us know what needed to be done to best meet her needs. God used the team at GHS to get our girl healthy and used them to answer prayers.
In the spring of 2017, Sam returned to GHS Children's Hospital following a string of grand mal seizures. The doctors and nurses were quick in attending to his every need and easing our fears. They worked to get him settled and keep him comfortable and did not release him until we knew he was better.
Katie, our 3 year old, also paid a visit to the GHS Children's Hospital. Katie has a severe milk protein allergy. She became severly impacted and needed several procedures and treatments to relieve the intestinal complications. Again, the doctors and nurses at GHS Children's Hospital took fabulous care of our littlest girl. Katie also had an outpatient surgery with Dr. Chandler's team at GHS this past fall. They were so loving and caring as they took her back. They took great care of her.
The Bryan NICU and the GHS Children's Hospital will always be very special to our family. We appreciate the love and care they show children and families daily. Please consider giving to the Bryan NICU or Child Life to support the Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System’s Virtual Toy Drive! By making a donation in support of our Toy Drive, you help provide items that provide joy and comfort to a pediatric patient. These items include distraction items like books, toys and iPads as well as comfort items like stuffed animals, blankets and music. Research shows that children are able to get well faster when we can provide these comforts and normal activities while in our care, yet many hospital systems do not have the budget to provide these items. That’s where you come in! Make a gift to my Virtual Toy Drive and know that you have helped make an experience better for a child served at GHS Children’s Hospital.
Thank you for taking the time to help these wonderful children!
