Why We Run: Rhonda's StoryI was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2011. I had a double mastectomy in November and started chemotherapy in December. Wow. What a huge disruption to my life. You just never think it's going to happen to you. I made it through four months of grueling chemotherapy. During that time I lost all of my hair and was tested both physically and emotionally. What I kept through it all though was my faith, friends and family. During those months of chemotherapy, I saw and met many people that were up against cancer battles that were even more difficult than my own.
To make it even worse, many of these people did not have the support system of family and friends that I had. Several months later, I was told I was in remission and I began to find my new normal. Even after this excellent news, I couldn't help, but think about those that continued to battle cancer. That is why I chose to participate in Run4Life. The run provides me with a platform to share my cancer journey and give back to individuals that are facing this horrific disease right here in our community.
