LET'S PADDLE CANCER FOR CHRIS!!!
OUR ROLLERCOASTER CANCER JOURNEY BEGAN OCTOBER 3 2016:
After 2 months of IBS-like symptoms Chris had a colonoscopy. Words simply cannot describe our devastation, shock and fear when the gastro told us he had COLON CANCER with nearly full blockage. We learned soon after that it was STAGE IV, which spread to his liver and beyond. How can this be!?!? Chris was only 43, a 2 time marathon runner, avid tennis player, brilliant engineer and gifted muscle car mechanic that we referred to as the "Energizer Bunny" with 2 speeds: 110mph or 0. Chris ALWAYS ate healthy, stayed active and lived a very clean life. Additionally, there was NO FAMILY HISTORY. Below is a quick recap of everything he has endured since that day. I share this only to encourage all of you to support GHS (or ANY cancer research group you choose). CANCER TRULY SUCKS!!!
THE BAD & THE UGLY (over only 14 months)
1 PORT IMPLANT SURGERY
2 LIVER SURGERIES
1 COLON RESECTION SURGERY
24 CHEMO INFUSIONS (5-6 hours EACH)
11 PET/CT SCANS
Side effects include pain, nausea, major fatigue, hair loss, chills, fever. headaches, loss of appetite, digestive disruption, stress and plenty of frustration
Cancer has done MANY terrible things to my husband, but it has NOT damaged his positive attitude, smile and determination!!! Additionally, we have been blown away by our ever growing medical team through GHS. We have been paddling in Dragon Boat for 6 years, but now the cause is near and dear to us. We have seen first hand the level of care from every member of the GHS Cancer Institute! Our Oncologist, Nurses (Clinical Trial and other), Radiologist, Colorectal Surgeon, chemotherapy nurses and every member of the hospital staff who cared for Chris during his 4 stays/surgeries.
Please consider making a donation to our Dragon Boat team so that GHS can continue the phenomenal care for patients and families we have experienced! We thank each and every one of you for your support whether you make a donation or not. Both Chris and I get so much energy and determination from our loving family and friends. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Much love and gratitude,
Dori & Chris McCarragher
