The Prisma Health-Upstate Board of Directors has created a new philanthropic foundation – the Prisma Health-Upstate Foundation – to help mobilize our community to change the health trajectory of South Carolina. The Foundation has applied for recognition by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, with operations expected to launch in early 2024. Until then, gifts should still be made to the Prisma Health Office of Philanthropy (tax ID: 81-1723202). We are pleased to continue working with donors interested in supporting the work of Prisma Health physicians, nurses, researchers, and other talented health care providers. Never has there been a more important endeavor.
Thank you for helping to ensure a healthier Upstate. We couldn’t do it without you!

Inspire Courage! Children’s Hospital-Upstate kicks off $6 million campaign
Children’s Hospital-Upstate launched a campaign to raise $6 million for a new pediatric cancer and blood disorders unit that will combine “whole family care” with exceptional clinical expertise and provide more treatment space in the Upstate.
The unit will care for children and adolescents with cancer, blood disorders, and sickle cell disease. Patient family suggestions were incorporated into the innovative design to help families feel more at home during what can be lengthy and repeated hospitalizations.
Hogs for the Cause, a non-profit barbecue competition and festival based in New Orleans with significant ties to South Carolina, kicked off the capital campaign by donating $1 million.
Community Partner Spotlight: TD Charitable Foundation Black Doula Program
With invaluable support from our community partner, the TD Charitable Foundation, Prisma Health has effectively sustained a groundbreaking program aimed at improving maternal and birth outcomes for Black mothers. This initiative pairs local mothers with doulas to provide essential support throughout the birthing process.
The pilot program would not be possible without the crucial funding through a $125,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of TD Bank.
“Black women across the U.S. experience a disproportionate rate of adverse health outcomes, including those around childbirth. If increasing access to trained birth partners such as doulas can mitigate that risk at all, we are committed to trying. Given the scale of Prisma Health, our geographic reach and our team’s investment in quality improvement and health equity, we are uniquely positioned to partner with patients to test interventions that may improve health disparities for Black birthing mothers,” said Dr. Kacey Eichelberger, chair of the Prisma Health Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Upstate. “We are deeply grateful to the TD Charitable Foundation for sharing our vision for equitable health care.”
“TD Bank is proud to support Prisma Health in its work to alleviate maternal health disparities in South Carolina,” said David Lominack, South Carolina market president, TD Bank.
We express our sincere appreciation to the TD Charitable Foundation for providing our healthcare team with the resources necessary to support our community in achieving the health outcomes Black mothers rightfully deserve.
